Goat hair means a lot for Olukbaşı village in Bozdoğan district of Aydın province.
Hair obtained from goats has been processed and sold by the people of this village for tent production for about 1000 years.
Every season, the hairs collected from goats travels to the region and spread on the road leading to the village to dry. When the time comes, the hair is collected in to sacks and turned into yarn in the facilities close to the village.
Villagers produce shepherd’s tents, saddlebags and bags from these bristles with the weaving looms in their houses. The shepherd’s tent, especially made of goat bristle, has the feature of keeping it cool in summer and warm in winter.
While I was driving to the village to photograph the weaving looms, i had to stop on the road where was covered with bristle. First i hesitated to drive but when I reached the village, I was very surprised when I learned the true story. Almost all roads and empty lands reaching to the village is used for hair drying.
